I had been thinking about getting a $100 bill tattoo for a minute. I finally walked into the shop one afternoon and told the artist what I wanted. He pulled up the design, showed me the placement ideas, and I can’t lie — it looked hard. The detail was clean, and I could already picture it on me.
So I asked him how much it was going to cost.
He said 500.
I honestly thought he was joking at first. I even laughed a little and said, “For a $100 bill tattoo?” He just looked at me serious and explained the size, the detail, the shading — all of that takes time. I tried to see if he’d go lower. Told him I didn’t think it should be that much. He wasn’t moving on the price though.
For a second I really thought about walking out. Five hundred is not small money, especially for something that’s just ink. But at the same time, I knew if I left, I’d still want it. I’d probably end up coming back anyway.
I stood there for a minute going back and forth in my head. I didn’t want to pay that much… but I also didn’t want a cheap version from somebody else.
So I finally said forget it and paid him.
When it was done and I looked at it in the mirror, I knew I made the right choice. It hurt my wallet a little, but sometimes if you want something done right, you gotta pay the price.
